Lesson 8

Śāmbhavopāya

The Way ofĀ Will

Supportless

Śāmbhavopāya (Shambhavopaya) type meditation techniques involve direct realization of the Self through pure consciousness and willpower, without any external support or mental activity. Techniques are directing consciousness to the void or bliss of being, and from there the Anugraha (revealing) grace illuminates.

Śāmbhavopāya is the highest method, with the least support. These techniques begin with directing consciousness intentionally.

Technique 80

Fixing one’s gaze without blinking on an external (beautiful) form, and making the mind supportless in a short time, one will attain nondual awareness.

Fix your eyes on a beautiful object without any movement of the eyelids. While doing so, do not let any thought appear in your mind. You become one with loving awareness quickly, from individuality to universality. Look at the object but see only beauty. Just look at beauty and you will enter Samadhi.

Technique 26

The Energy of Breath should neither move out nor enter; when the center unfolds by the dissolution of thoughts, then one attains the natural state of the Supreme.

When you intentionally stop all movements of mind and maintain one-pointedness in the central vein, Sushumna, the energy of breath neither goes out or comes in, it is already illuminated and one becomes one with the Supreme state.

Technique 84

Looking at the clear sky one should fix one’s gaze without blinking and make one’s body motionless. In that very instant, O Goddess, one attains the Divine nature.

Fix your gaze on a clear blue sky, without clouds, only this akasa, without any break or gap and without moving. Do not move your body in any way. Be absolutely still like a rock. In that very moment, you will attain the svarupa of Bhairava, the essential nature of the Self.

Technique 113

O Goddess, listen to this mystical tradition. I shall reveal it to you completely: If the eyes are fixed without blinking the state of liberation will occur immediately.

This is the supreme way to enter the state of God-consciousness. Just keep your eyes wide open, do not see anything. Do not move your eyelids. Keep on looking, but do not perceive anything. You will achieve the state of Moksha (liberation). This is a technique of expansion and withdrawal.
