Lesson 7

Śāktopāya

The Way of Knowledge

Subtle support

Śāktopāya (Shaktopaya) techniques are the centering between activities, movements, thoughts, points or sensations, to focus and merge the individual mind with universal consciousness, that is to most easily be found in the in-between.

Śāktopāya is utilising less support from the body and more from intentionally directed thought, will and energy. Thus it is a method of shakti, the energy of consciousness.

Technique 25

By focusing one’s awareness on either of the two voids (at the end) of the inhalation and exhalation, there nondual awareness is revealed.

When you maintain uninterrupted awareness in these two voids, it is only awareness that functions here and grace will do its magic to reveal this insight to you.

Technique 28

Meditate on the Shakti rising from Muladhara which is luminous like rays of the sun and which gets subtler and subtler until it dissolves in dvadasanta (Brahamarendra). Then the state of nonduality will arise.

Here one concentrates on the prana-Shakti which rises in the form of Kundalini. From Muladhara (root) chakra to Sahasrara (crown) chakra. Not through the way of breath, but directly in the form of subtle rays of light. When you contemplate on that prana-Shakti in this way, and when that prana-Shakti takes hold of brahmarandhra in the crown and is appeased there, you will be established in complete tranquillity, and the nondual state revealed.

Technique 65

The yogi should contemplate simultaneously on the whole world, or his own body, as filled with the bliss of the Self, then by his own blissful nectar he becomes united with the Supreme Bliss.

Either you imagine that the universe is filled with your own bliss, or your body is filled with bliss. Do not fill it with succession. Imagine it is already full of bliss. You must think that it is filled with the bliss of nondual awareness and by that bliss one melts and becomes one with supreme bliss.

Technique 48

One should meditate on the body as only enclosed by skin with nothing inside. Meditating in this way, one attains the One who cannot be meditated upon.

Concentrate on your body as if containing nothing but emptiness. A body in which nothing exists. There are only outside walls of skin to make the exterior covering of your body. Inside there is nothing. The one who is concentrating in this way perceives soon the fullness of the void of nondual awareness.
